One month ago, I went on a trip to Playa del Carmen in Mexico. Being my second time there, I was looking for something new to discover. I had heard of Bacalar but it never really convinced me until a good friend of mine told me I should go. And yes, he was right.
Laguna Bacalar is a 42 kilometer long lake in the state of Quintana Roo. Now what makes it so special?
As you take a trip with a small boat you’ll notice quickly, because of the presence of several cenotes, the lake is divided in 7 different colors, from very clear to very dark. The place is a perfect break from all the beaches and is also a great spot to camp. There is not much else to do here but that’s also why people like it. Another good thing is that it is not that expensive as the boat trip should cost you only 200 pesos.
Furthermore, not only the lake in Bacalar is nice but also the small authentic town itself makes you want to stay just a little bit longer.
It’s easy to reach from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum with bus company ADO (approximately 700 pesos).
